DESCRIPTION:The 5th annual Technology for Learning Summit is happening at Oak Bay High on the Pro-D Day Friday\, Nov. 22nd 2019. For the past 4 years we have partnered with EdTechTeam to help facilitate this event. This year the Provincial Specialist Association (PSA) called CUEBC (Computer Using Educators of BC) will be working in conjunction with SD61\, SD62 and SD63 and it will be called the CUEBC Tech For Learning Summit 2019.\n \nThe continued purpose of the conference is to provide teachers with support and inspiration around any technology used in the classroom for teaching and learning. Sessions may include infusing topics such as G-Suite\, Chromebooks\, iPads\, coding\, Read and Write for Google Chrome\, robotics\, using a green screen\, using ePortfolios\, digital wellness\,  etc. into inclusive classroom teaching and learning K-12.\n  \nKeynote Speaker \nAna Homayoun – Social Media Wellness: Understanding the Intersection of School\, Stress and Social Media\nWorking with kids in today‘s digital world has never been so complex\, and keeping up with the latest social media trends can seem like a never-ending challenge. Today‘s technology-infused learning environments play host to many distractions\, including social media. Many teens and young adults typically use online tools to promote and maintain community\, and with that opportunity comes potential challenges. It will include a wildlife/ whale watching trip with Eagle Wing Tours\, which is a nationally recognized company\, out on the water to give your students an opportunity to learn first-hand about the wonders of this area. Space travel\, music icons and harnessing the power of ‘desirable difficulties’. \n\nLegendary NASA Flight Director\, Mr. Gene Kranz\, famously declared that ‘Failure Is Not an Option’ while engineering the safe return of the Apollo 13 crew. Though this approach is essential when lives hang in the balance\, it may not be the mantra to adopt when designing deeper learning experiences for our students. Recent research suggests that creativity and understanding are the silver lining of struggle. Furthermore\, bands like the Beatles\, who took great artistic risks\, ended up fundamentally changing modern music.  Surprisingly\, immediate feedback models and instant performance measurements can actually be misinterpreted as true student understanding\, while our own life experiences suggest that difficulty\, uncertainty and mistakes provide the canvas for long-term memory. DESCRIPTION:Red Cross Respect Education invites you to a 7-hour training for PHE 10 teachers being held in Victoria\, BC. \nPlease join us at no charge for this one-day workshop based on the ERAC-certified Healthy Youth Relationships course developed by the Canadian Red Cross. This training will help Planning and PHE 10 teachers meet the curriculum competencies for: \n\nDeveloping healthy relationships\nResponding to unsafe situations\nManaging conflict\nAwareness of personal boundaries\, gender identity\, and sexual orientation\nSkills in decision-making\, communication\, and critical thinking\nAnalyzing the risks of technology and the impacts of sexual interactions online\n\nAs part of the workshop\, teachers will be provided with grade-level lesson plans to deliver the content to their students in a flexible\, adaptable format.
