About Us

The Learning Team is comprised of 5 District administrators who serve and support all learners in School District 61.

We want to empower educators to create equitable classrooms that provide students with learning experiences that meet their needs and allow them to graduate with hope and purpose.

We aim to build connections for support and to share and celebrate great teaching and learning as one learning community across School District 61.

The Learning Team wishes to recognize and acknowledge the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, on whose traditional territories, we live, we learn, and we do our work.

Josh Barks has taught at both middle and secondary levels over the past nine years.  For two years, Josh supported a grade 7-12 school in Hawaii with their transition to learning with iPads and GSuite.  Josh is excited to bring his ideas and vision for technology integration to the Learning Team and is looking forward to supporting teachers across our district. Outside of school, Josh is a sports enthusiast, loves being outdoors and dabbles in woodworking.

Rohan Gowda has a passion for using educational technology to create an inclusive learning environment in all classrooms. He has integrated GSuite, FreshGrade, Chromebooks and iPads into his practice to help meet the individual and diverse needs of his students at the grade 4/5 level. Rohan has spent the majority of his life on the west coast and thoroughly enjoys the ocean and outdoors.

Christian MacInnis recently spent four years at a middle school on Bowen Island where he supported teachers as they integrated new ways of teaching and learning using GSuite.  He has also spent a number of years teaching a myriad of high school subjects in England and China. He is passionate about technology’s potential to improve both educational access and outcomes for all learners, teaching digital citizenship, and enhancing workflows. Christian has just returned to Canada after a year-long cycle tour around the world.
