Assessments
Selected Math Assessments for K-5
Some effective assessment tools that should be easy for SD61 staff to access. Of course, selecting the most appropriate assessment depends on what you are aiming to understand mathematically about your student(s). For example, you might be looking for what students know about :
- one math concept for a lesson or several concepts for a unit or an overall sense of mathematical thinking to begin or end the year
- a detailed analysis of one student or general info the whole class
- conceptual thinking & understanding or knowing a mathematical process or algorithm
INA – Island Numeracy Assessment – whole class
Developed from VIDMA, still comprehensive but more unit by unit; great for end of year check-in assessment grades 3-7
SNAP – whole class
Very good for number sense – students will need to be guided through a few tries for best insight into their understanding
Early Numeracy Project (ENP) – individual or possibly small group
K- 3, Very detailed insight for a student. The original red, yellow and green books may be at your school.
Nanaimo School District developed a newer resource
