Provincial Assessments

Assessment and curriculum are interconnected. Provincial exams and classroom assessments are being redesigned to align with new curriculum content.
Equally importantly, our new provincial graduation assessments will align not only with new curriculum, but with research on best practice, which highlights student centered and personalized ways of learning.
Assessments will continue to be rigorous and based on learning standards evaluating student achievement, core competencies, essential learning and literacy and math skills. However, more flexibility will be introduced into the assessment process wherever possible.

Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment

The Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment is a provincial assessment that assesses student proficiency in numeracy. It is a graduation requirement and students take the assessment in their Grade 10 year.
The Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment focuses on the application of mathematical concepts learned across multiple subjects from kindergarten to Grade 10. It requires  students to solve problems by using five numeracy processes (different ways of thinking and working): interpret, apply, solve, analyze and communicate. The numeracy processes are described in the pre-assessment activities and in the specifications.

Literacy 10/12 Assessment

The Grade 10 Literacy Assessment is a provincial assessment that assesses student proficiency in literacy.  It is a graduation requirement and students take the assessment in their Grade 10 year.

The Grade 10 Literacy Assessment assesses student ability to use critical thinking and analysis to make meaning from a diverse array of texts. It also assesses the ability of students to communicate their ideas. The Grade 10 Literacy Assessment is not based on a particular course, but on learning across multiple subjects, from kindergarten to Grade 10.

Students can access their results from the “Graduation Assessment/Provincial Examinations” link after logging into their account on the Student Transcripts Service at: www.studenttranscripts.gov.bc.ca.

The Grade 12 Literacy Assessment is a provincial assessment that assesses student proficiency in literacy. It is a graduation requirement and students take the assessment in their Grade 12 year.  The Grade 12 Literacy Assessment is currently in draft form and will go into effect starting in the 2021-2022 school Year.  Students graduating in the 2021-2022 school year will be the first group of graduating students who will require the Grade 12 Literacy Assessment for Graduation.
