Professional Learning Series: Apprendre sur La Terre! Land-based learning in the French Immersion classroom
Please join us for a learning series focusing on Land-based learning in the French lmmersion classroom.
Tuesday October 18, 9:00-3:00. – John Harris, Elders and Indigenous knowledge facilitator(s) with the Indigenous Education Department at SD61 will lead us to understand “Learning on the Land” from an Indigneous point of view. The day will start in the Esquimalt Longhouse, and then continue to Portage Inlet for some teachings on the land. This session will be in English. We will confirm your participation on Wednesday October 12 and will give you information to book your TTOC on that day.
November 14, 12:30 – 3:00 Location: Arbutus Middle School
Mme Cheryl Rolston will lead a Learning from the Land session that will introduce you to a variety of native and non-native plants. You will learn which ones you can eat, make tea from, and heal cuts from. She will tell you about her Metis teachings of how to harvest and walk gently on the land. This session will be in French, and will be held in the afternoon as part of the “mini congrès français” on the November 14th pro-d day.
Spring – Date and location TBA
This last session will be another chance to learn about plants that can be found in the spring, and again which you can eat or use for different purposes. It will also be a chance to share your own learning and lessons with your colleagues. This session will be in French.
